Spinal stenosis is an encompassing term that includes a variety of spine conditions. Spinal stenosis refers to any condition where the spinal canal becomes more narrow than usual, thus causing tissue to press against the spinal cord or nerve roots. People with spinal stenosis experience pain and other neurological symptoms. This is usually caused by issues with the discs or vertebrae, such as herniated discs, arthritis, and bone spurs. More rarely, issues like tumors can cause spinal stenosis.

When you have suffered from a herniated disc for a long time, it can seem like no treatment will provide relief. This is especially true if you have tried non-surgical treatments and found them ineffective. For patients who have a herniated disc that doesn't respond to conservative methods, surgery can be long-awaited relief from pain.

For decades, the only surgical treatment for spine conditions was open back surgery, which involves opening up the spine and using a scalpel and other traditional tools to address issues such as compression of the spinal cord. While worthwhile for patients who needed it, this procedure had a relatively high risk of some side effects and a long, strenuous recovery period.

With any surgery - or any situation in life - there is always a chance of major complications, no matter how small that chance may be. Though exceedingly rare, it's possible for a patient to die from a surgery as minor as the removal of wisdom teeth. Similarly, although virtually no one is paralyzed by laser back surgery, it is technically a potential side effect.

When you need medical care, the last thing you want to do is be unable to obtain it due to high costs. Fortunately for patients with chronic back pain, the laser spine surgery cost is usually quite affordable, thanks to the fact that insurance will cover most of the expenses. In addition, laser back surgery may be more affordable than traditional, open back surgery, because the minimally invasive methods employed help to keep costs to a minimum. The price of any surgery includes many different costs:

The sciatic nerve is one of the body's major nerves. It runs from the lower back down through the legs. Sciatica occurs when this nerve becomes pinched or inflamed, thus causing pain and/or neurological problems in the lower back and legs.

Sciatica is one of the most common back conditions around, and it can be caused by several different conditions, including:
The layout of the muscles
Arthritis
Misalignment of the spine
Herniated discs
Bulging discs
Bone spurs
Spinal tumors (rare)

In today's world, there is virtually no such thing as an inexpensive surgery; even if the procedures used are minimally invasive, the out of pocket cost is at a minimum several thousand dollars, and often much more. Fortunately, insurance will cover most or all of the cost of laser back surgery, allowing patients to get the treatment they need without experiencing financial hardship.

Having an estimate of recovery time is important when going into any surgery, so that patients can make arrangements regarding things like work, child care, and travel. Herniated disc surgery recovery time depends largely on the type of surgery used, as we will outline below.

Bulging discs are one of the most common spine conditions around. A bulging disc is a disc that has become misshapen. Sometimes there are no symptoms at all, but when the misshapen disc presses against the spinal cord or nerve roots, then patients can experience pain, muscle weakness, or numbness.

Bulging discs are one of the most common spine conditions around. They are especially common with age, as the discs start to lose fluid. A bulging disc is a disc which has become misshapen. When it presses against the spinal cord, you may experience pain or other neurological symptoms.
