A bulging disc occurs when a disc becomes misshapen in one or more places as a result of the disc being flatter than usual. This can cause spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the spinal canal, in which the nerve roots or spinal cord are compressed. Bulging discs are most common in the lumbar spine (lower back), but they can also occur in the cervical spine (neck).

A bulging disc is a disc that has lost its normal form, becoming flatter than normal and thus bulging out into a space larger than what it would normally occupy. Bulging discs can cause spinal stenosis, which is when the spinal canal becomes narrower than usual, causing the nerve roots or spinal cord to be compressed. This compression can affect the communication between the brain and the rest of the body, causing symptoms such as:
Pain in the back or limbs, including sciatica
Muscle weakness
Problems with perception in the limbs, such as numbness

Bulging discs press against the nerve roots or spinal cord. Sometimes they can be treated using non-surgical techniques, but other cases don't respond to such procedures, and bulging disc surgery is necessary. Bulging discs are one of the most common spine conditions around. Fortunately, bulging discs are relatively mild, and there are few other spine conditions that respond as well to treatment as this type of condition does.

Bulging discs are quite common, especially among people who have reached middle age, which is when the discs start to lose fluid and become more prone to damage. A bulging disc occurs when the outer portion of the disc, the annulus fibrosus, becomes flatter than usual, thus taking up more space width-wise than it should, like a hamburger that's too big for the bun. Some patients have bulging discs without ever realizing it, but if the disc presses against the nerves, symptoms can occur.

Chronic pain can have wide-ranging effects on health and quality of life that only someone who has suffered from it can truly understand. People suffering from chronic back pain often experience not just pain but also:
Decreased work productivity
Less ability to participate in normal social and family activities
Less ability to stay in physical shape
Insomnia
Depression
Anxiety

When it comes to spine conditions, herniated discs are one of the most common. Many people, especially those who are middle aged or older, have at least one herniated disc - some without even knowing it. The symptoms range from non-existent to debilitating, and the course of treatment should take into account the severity of symptoms and how the patient has responded to past treatments.

The spine is divided into three major sections: the cervical spine, which is located in the neck, the thoracic spine, which is the upper back, and the lumbar spine, which is the lower back. While the spinal cord runs through the cervical and thoracic spine, by the lumbar spine it becomes a bundle of nerves known as the cauda equina.

Herniated discs are a relatively common spine condition that occur when a disc ruptures in one or more places, allowing the disc to press against the nerve roots or the spinal cord. The symptoms range from quite mild to excruciating depending on the severity of the condition. The most common place to experience a herniated disc is in the lower back, but they can also occur in the neck or the upper back, where symptoms may be relatively more severe.

Laser spine surgery is at the forefront of the treatment of common spine conditions. During this minimally invasive procedure, doctors remove excess tissue using lasers while viewing the spine using an endoscopic camera. If necessary, other tools can be inserted into the spine as well.

Laser spine surgery is at the forefront of surgical technology, and the treatment of spine conditions in particular. It has transformed what getting surgical treatment entails for thousands of people, allowing them to recover faster and more comfortably, while still getting the same highly effective treatment offered by traditional spine surgery.
