- Spinal arthritis
- Bone spurs
- Herniated discs
- Bulging discs
As well as some other, less common conditions. Spinal stenosis of any form can cause some severe symptoms, including back pain, limb pain, sciatica, muscle weakness, and numbness in the limbs. As anyone who has suffered from these conditions can attest, effective spinal stenosis treatment is essential to returning to a better quality of life.
Conservative Treatments
Most cases of spinal stenosis can be resolved without resorting to surgery. Conservative spinal stenosis treatment works through two main methods:
- Reducing inflammation through treatments such as anti-inflammatory medication, epidural steroid injections, or limited rest
- Reducing the amount of weight the spine bears using methods such as physical therapy (strengthening the back), chiropractic care (realigning the back) and weight loss (reducing overall weight the back bears)
These treatments are usually very effective at treating common spinal stenosis conditions.
Surgical Treatment
Surgical treatment is used when symptoms are very severe, such as when spinal stenosis in the neck is getting progressively worse. It can also be used when conservative treatments fail to relieve symptoms.
Most common spine conditions respond well to laser spine surgery, a minimally invasive form of spine surgery. During this procedure, a laser is used to excise the tissue that causing the narrowing of the spinal canal. No large incision is made, and the procedure can be performed in an outpatient setting. The recovery time is short and not intensive, and patients return to their normal lives quickly.
